Mountain Eye Care and CNIB
Mountain Eye Care works with CNIB to raise awareness about the prominence of vision loss in our society. You read that right! Vision loss is quite prominent in Canada, primarily due to our ageing population.
A 2011 CNIB report estimated that over one million people in Canada are living with blindness or vision loss, costing the Canadian economy billions of dollars a year and this number has been steadily growing since the report took place. To put this into perspective, there are more people in Canada living with vision loss than the number of Canadians who suffer from breast cancer, prostate cancer, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, combined.
What is CNIB?
The Canadian National Institute for the Blind, more commonly known as CNIB, is a non-profit organization that was founded as a means to support those with vision loss. This foundation provides community-based support for those who live with blindness or vision loss, as a means to supply them with the skills, knowledge, and opportunity to fully participate in life like anyone else.
CNIB spreads awareness and gives a national voice in Canada to those with vision loss. Mountain Eye Care and CNIB hold to the notion that you should have your eyes checked once a year to keep track of your vision, so come on down to our Hamilton facility to get your eye exam taken care of.
Annual Eye Exams
Almost eighty percent of the world’s vision loss is comprised of cases that were either preventable or curable. Scheduling a yearly eye exam with one of our optometrists at Mountain Eye Care, as advised by CNIB, can go a long way in preventing vision loss, and keeping track of your overall health.
An annual exam could help catch the onset of an array of eye diseases that cause vision loss. Some of these include cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
Optometrists can detect more than just vision-related issues within the eye as well. They are trained to identify other types of illnesses and diseases that can manifest in the eyes but tell of deeper problems throughout your system. Diabetes and Hypertension are just a few of the possible diagnosis.
Therefore, it is crucial to schedule an annual eye exam as a means to keep track of your vision as well as your body’s overall health. So take the advice of CNIB, at book your eye exam with our Mountain Eye Care optometrists today. Vision loss is no joke, as it is growing more prevalent within our society.
